WHAT IS THE LA FRUIT SHARE?
The LA Fruit Share is a city-wide, seasonal call to distribute backyard produce that all too often goes to waste. Angelenos harvest their homegrown produce and offer it to the public in front of their homes.
Those with trees give, but anyone can register and download an interactive map to collect everything from mandarins to kumquats, ripe for the taking on the day of the event.
The LA Fruit Share is a collaboration between Food Forward, Fruitstitute and Salad for President.

Julia Sherman runs Salad for President, an evolving publishing project that draws a meaningful connection between food, art and everyday obsessions. Sherman, and her writing, have been featured in Vogue, The New York Times, T Mag, Domino, Art in America, Food & Wine, and Bon Appétit, amongst others. Sherman’s Salad for President: A Cookbook Inspired by Artists was published by Abrams Books in the Spring of 2017, and her second cookbook, Arty Parties: An Entertaining Cookbook, will be published by Abrams in Fall 2021 Sherman is also the founder and creator of Jus Jus Verjus, an all natural, low ABV sparkling wine.

Food Forward (501(c)(3)) fights hunger and prevents food waste by rescuing fresh, surplus produce, connecting this abundance with people in need and inspiring others to do the same. Fruits and vegetables are collected from backyard fruit trees, public orchards, farmers markets, and the downtown Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market. 100% of the recovered produce is donated to hunger relief agencies across 8 counties in Southern California and tribal lands in Arizona and New Mexico. The organization has won four consecutive Food Recovery Challenge awards from the U.S. EPA (2015-18) for its work to prevent and reduce food waste.

Fruitstitute is an L.A. based fruit tree care and education service. Founded by local fruit tree specialist Joanna Glovinsky, Fruitstitute is the only home orchard service in L.A county, providing seasonal pruning, maintenance, tree planting & education to backyard growers. Fruitstitute takes the art of growing fruit out of the orchard and into the backyard.
